Chinese Officials and Entrepreneurs Discuss AI Computing in a MWC Forum

China’s senior internet administration official has called for strengthened collaborative innovation, optimized strategic planning, increased investment in network infrastructure, expanded application scenarios, and the adoption of green technologies to build an efficient, secure, inclusive, and low-carbon AI computing power ecosystem.  

Yang Jianwen, Deputy Director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, made the comments in a forum named “AI Computing Power Development” hosted by the World Internet Conference on Tuesday. The forum, with a theme of "Building an Integrated, Inclusive, and Green AI Computing Power Ecosystem," was part of the Mobile World Congress 2025 held in Barcelona, Spain from March 3-6.

Yang emphasized in his speech that as the era of comprehensive intelligence approaches, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is profoundly impacting industrial production, the society and daily life, creating vast development opportunities across industries and driving the next generation of industrial transformation.

The forum featured speeches from prominent figures, including Zhao Houlin, former Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union; Sihan Bo Chen, Head of Greater China at GSMA; Li Zixue, Chairman of China’s telecom equipment giant ZTE Corporation; Zhang Dong, Vice President of telecom giant China Mobile Communications Group; Liu Jun, Executive Vice President of electronics giant Lenovo Group; Besik Bughanishvili, Chairman of Georgian Development Fund; Jiang Tao, Co-Founder of tech company iFlytek; Luigi Gambardella, the President of non-profit international organization ChinaEU; and Jany Hejuan Zhao , the founder of TMTPost Group.  

Over 100 participants from across the globe attended the event. They reached a consensus that inclusive development and cross-industry collaboration are key to achieving sustainable AI growth, and stressed a need for enhanced international cooperation to address challenges related to computing power and energy consumption.  

China is willing to continue to deepen communication and cooperation with global industry partners, accelerate the sharing of the benefits of new-generation information technology innovation results globally, and share the dividends of the development of new-quality productive forces, said Zhang.
